Gingivitis Is An Inflammation Of The Gingiva (or GUMS)

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

oral irrigator

Gingivitis is a general term used to describe inflammation of the gums. This is caused by the growth of bacteria between the teeth and the gums. These bacterial biofilms (plaque and tartar) can be minute; in fact they can be microscopic and still cause this type of inflammation. Halitosis or bad breath is one of the side effects of this inflammation and although having bad breath is not life-threatening, it is able to cause embarrassment, social isolation and low self-esteem.

If gingivitis is left to worsen, deep cavities between the teeth and the gums are formed. It can affect the bone of the jaws which support the teeth meaning the teeth become loose and will more than likely require extraction. An ozone generator may be of great value in this regard. It is vital therefore to ensure that the teeth are correctly maintained, in order to prevent severe infection from happening.

Regular teeth brushing aside, it is important to regularly visit your dental hygienist or dentists to have your teeth professionally cleaned. When the dentist cleans your teeth they remove the plaque. You may be able to reduce the plaque build up through use of an oral irrigator. Once this has been removed the cause of the inflammation is also removed.

Plaque takes approximately three months to grow again, so if you have recurring bouts of gingivitis, you will probably be advised to have your teeth professionally cleaned every 3 - 4 months. The norm is every 6 months, but it may be necessary to do this on a more regular basis in order to prevent re-infection. One useful device is the hydro floss, which should not be confused with the hydro pulse - they are two different instruments. Tartar is able to start forming again as little as 24 hours after you have had your teeth professionally cleaned.

A well developed gingivitis condition is able to cause all kinds of problems. The bacteria can infect the gums and even enter the bloodstream. You may not even notice this happening but if this bacteria enters the bloodstream the body can become prone to varying general inflammations. Links have been found between this condition and pancreatic cancer, long term heart disease, arteriosclerosis and osteoporosis. Although a citation is required, we have even seen that gingivitis has a connection with low birth weight and pre-term births.

Terrifying Varieties Of Gum Disease And Treatment

end gum disease

Gum disease is on the rise all throughout the world. People from all walks of life, backgrounds, and social classes are not free from the dangers of gum disease. However, most people assume that only people who don’t care of their teeth can acquire this mouth disease. However, that is far from the truth. Therefore, one must be educated on how to
stop gum disease. There are a variety of gum related diseases that anyone can contract no matter how much they concern themselves with proper dental care.

One of the most shocking forms of gum disease is known as Periodontitis. This disease can generally be contributed to untreated plaque and gingivitis. When a person experiences Periodontitis their gums actually start to recede from their teeth. When this happens a person will actually begin to lose their teeth since they become disconnected from the gums.

The most common form of gum disease in the world is Gingivitis. This form of gum disease actually is due to inadequate dental care. If a person does not brush their teeth and gums on a regular basis plaque and bacteria can form. When this happens the gums will begin to turn red, may become sore, and you may encounter bleeding gums.

The best way to treat any form of mouth related disease is to avoid them all together! Though there are a few gum diseases that can result without reason, the majority of them can be prevented by simply following a disciplined at home dental care program with proper brushing and flossing.

Additionally, anyone looking to end gum disease or to make sure that they never contract gum disease should visit their dentist or oral care specialist at least once every three to six months. However, that may not be enough to correct your problem. You have to educate yourself and find what works beyond these simple precautions. If they worked for everyone, there would be no gum disease problems in the world. And there are, aren’t there?

Gum Disease Treatment Is Vitally Important

bleeding gums

Each year hundreds of thousands of people are diagnosed with gum disease of some level and degree. However, many people who visit their dentist or oral hygienist do so too late and generally have to go through extreme procedures in order to rectify their oral issues. These types of procedures can usually be avoided all together if a person properly cares for their teeth on a daily basis.

There are a variety of non-surgical treatments that a person can undergo including scaling and root planing. Root planing involves a major cleaning of the tops of the roots wherein plaque and tarter are removed from the roots in order to prevent or reverse gum disease.

If a non-surgical method does not work for the treatment of gum disease, then surgical procedures will have to be used in order to correct the issues. However, it is recommended that most people attempt a non-surgical procedure before turning to a surgical method due to the fact that surgical methods are very expensive, whereas non-surgical methods tend to cost a great less and can achieve the same results.

When it concerns typical surgeries that a person may undergo in order to correct their oral issues, the following four are very common: pocket reduction procedures, regenerative procedures, crown lengthening, and soft tissue grafts. However, the specific surgery will be decided upon on a case by case basis. A dentist can decide which type of surgery will work best for your level of gum disease.

gum disease that is left untreated can actually result in serious conditions to the body due to various infections that can arise in the mouth and be carried throughout the body. This includes but is not limited to death.

Therefore, anyone who is experiencing or think they might be experiencing any level of gum disease should visit their periodontist immediately for advice, diagnosis and treatment. This article does not intend to render any advice, diagnosis or treatment.

Taking care of the elderly

Saturday, July 25th, 2009

Life is ironic at times. We start our lives young and in need of people who can take care of us.We grow older and then are able to take care by ourselves. And if we get to live long lives, we may just end up in need of somebody to care for us.Of course it is in those moments that we get to live through so many joyous times.  But it is during our senior years that we are going to take a look at.

It is when we are in our senior years that we could have a need for care is the subject of this article.  The perspective I would like to offer is a perspective I have gained running my home health care San Diego company. It is because of that senior home care company that I have been able to learn a lot in regards to the senior years.

In some instances when we do get older, we may remain strong until we die.  For some people they may get sick and need to be cared for.  But then there are many in between.Seniors who don’t have medical issues that warrant the need for full care.  But who because of their age may need some things taken care of for them.  It is at that time that a company like my senior home care San Diego agency is needed.

A senior home care agency si there for the times when a person wants to stay in their home over a nursing home. But they just can’t remember to take care of all the important things they have to do.  It could be a variety of things.  Some may need somebody there to make sure all medicine is taken care of.  Some might need somebody to take care of their grooming. For some seniors maybe the task of taking care of the shopping. There are many reasons.  But for many seniors it is a much better choice than a nursing home.

It is a better choice because hiring a home health care Oceanside company allows them the freedom that a nursing home would have taken away.
