Can The Neti Pot’s Modern Alternative Help with Elder Care?

Saturday, July 11th, 2009

The neti pot has been becoming more popular lately. Before you decide to use it for your sinus related problems, you may want to know a bit about the history of the neti pot and how it is supposed to work. After all, you always want to know as much as possible when your health is involved.

The neti pot has been used in the Indian yogic tradition for no less than millennia. It is extremely old, which speaks well for its ability and effectiveness. It is also known as jala neti. It was not introduced into the United States until the 1970s. It emerged through the widely popular yoga culture. It was actually used as a device during meditation.

As good as the neti pot may be, the hydro pulse may be a much better choice. Its modern pulsatile irrigation works well.

Even after yoga turned into a rather mainstream practice, alternative cultures continued to use the neti pot. For example, it is now a part of Ayurvedic medicine.

The neti pot is a method used in nasal irrigation, also known as nasal lavage. It is something used in personal hygiene, but it can also improve certain aspects of your health. Basically, the nasal cavity is essentially washed out. This will flush out any excessive debris and mucus from your nose as well as your sinuses. Almost anyone could benefit from a nasal irrigation system, they are powerful.

The pot itself has been described as looking like a hybrid of a gravy boat and a magic lamp from Arabian nights. Its design makes this flushing process simpler. The pot is most often filled with warm saline, or salt water. Sodium bicarbonate is sometimes added. The grossan sinus irrigator is an interesting choice.

The spout of the pot goes into one nostril. The liquid goes into it. Ideally, you would want the solution to either go through your nasal cavity and into the back of your throat. That allows you to spit it out. The other method is having it go into your other nostril and then stream out of it.

Things you have to deal with as you age

Friday, July 10th, 2009

Living in the 21st century has brought many medical advances. One of the corresponding results is the longer lives that we live.  More and more people are living longer lives. For quite a few that do live longer, they still remain quite active. But for a few they will need a little bit more care.

For most aging adults when you mention care, they will think of the usual nursing homes. But there is a different choice.  I would like to present that option and benefits from my experience running my own home health care services San Diego company.

So that other option is home health care.  Yes, for some seniors they do need that extra attention and care.  Maybe it is due to medical conditions.Or it could be because of some type of physical ailment. But for a few, they will not need a nursing home. They don’t really require that 24 hour service.  It is to those aging seniors that a home care agency San Diego agency like mine can help.

A senior home care agency allows the senior the choice of getting specialized attention yet still stay at home.  But it still gives them the ability to stay in their homes. For most people this is a huge benefit. They will not have to give up the freedoms they enjoy. They will still experience their independance. And still they are able to be close to friends and family.

It takes part in all these benefits, yet still gives someone the ability to still care for them.  They can have someone make sure important tasks are completed.Items that an aging person could have trouble getting it completed.Tasks that may get more harder as a person starts to get older and older.  That is what a home health care services Oceanside agency can do.

So when it is the time when you have to consider the different care options that you or your loved ones ned.If it is a possibility, think of using a senior home care company to get the important things taken care of. This allows them to still enjoy the benefits of staying home.

Can The Elderly Get Lung Infections from Poor Dental Health?

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

It has recently become quite clear that there is a very real link between lung infections and gum disease. Because both of these problems are serious in and of themselves, neither should be taken lightly. With studies showing that periodontal disease can ultimately cause lung infections, that is yet more incentive to practice effective oral hygiene. Not only are your teeth and gums too important to risk, but your respiratory health is as well.

One device that is quite useful is known as the oral irrigator. This tool may help to fight the daily build up of plaque that is happening in your mouth.

Lung infections are also commonly known as bacterial respiratory infections. At least, that is one type of lung infection. Specifically, it is the one with which we are most concerned for the purposes of this article. These infections are caused when you inhale fine amounts of bacteria into your lungs. Naturally, within the droplets, there are likely to be bacteria. Those germs will first begin breeding and then multiplying - right inside your lungs. To say they can cause significant damage that way is an understatement. Essential oil blends such as ora md might be helpful in this regard.

A home ozonator can be used to create oxygenated water that can then be used as an oxygenated mouth rinse. If you use a lot of mouthwash this could be a great way to save money.

There was recently some research done which shows that this harmful bacteria can exist in the mouth. From there, it can be inhaled down into your lungs. A primary infection can occur, or an existing one can become much worse.

What is the specific link here? Gingivitis is caused by bacteria. The worst part is that a large portion of people currently have some form of gum disease and they do not even know it. In the best case scenario, we all have bacteria in our mouths, all the time. When you do not take care of your teeth and gums, however, the bacteria will get worse and worse. Microbes can infest the plaque building up between your teeth. That can easily be taken into your respiratory tract.

This article is not intended to provide advice, treatment or diagnosis for  gum disease or any other health condition and is for information purposes only.   You should seek diagnoses, treatment, advice and care from a periodontist or other dental professional if you have or think you might have gum disease or any other oral health problem. For other health problems, visit a medical doctor.  The FDA has not evaluated statements about the products mentioned in this article.

Home care benefits vs. a nursing home

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009

There are many wonderful times and experiences in a person’s life. There is those years of carefree existence. There is those years of our adult life when we have more responsibilities. Then there are those great times of our life that are the senior years.  It is those senior years I would
like to take a look at.  Mainly, the time when a person may not be able to care for themselves completely.

It is during that time when a family needs to look at 3 options.  This is going to be perspective I have gained from running my own home health care services Coronado company.

First option is the adult kids taking care of them.  This would be ideal. But there will be instances when the kids aren’t in a position to do it.  Whether it be do to job constraints or family constraints.Well if that is how it is, there maybe 2 different choices.

Those options are nursing homes or homecare such as my home health care Escondido company.

Nursing homes are useful for those instances when someone does have health concerns and really can’t care for themselves anymore. This is someone in need of round the clock medical care. But if someone is not in that time of their life, they won’t need to go to a nursing home. And from the people I have dealt with, they don’t want to.Unfortunately, most people think that is the only choice and there is no other.

Well if they coerced into accepting that situation, a senior will feel as if their independance is now gone. They have just lost a lot of freedom. They have just lost a lot of familiar things.

But if a person chooses a senior home care agency such as my home care agency San Diego company, they can keep all of those benefits.Said another way they can experience their older years yet still have independance and comfort.

Senior home health care gives them that choice of being able to stay at home. While ensuring that those needs they can’t do themselves are still handled properly.

It is a beautiful arrangement. They can have all of their needs overseen by a qualified caregiver or nursing assistant.Picking a good home health care company can give the senior a compassionate and ethical experience they will appreciate.

So when you aer searching for the care of loved ones or parents, locating a good home care agency might be just what you are looking for.I know from personal experience with my own senior home care agency.

Alzheimer’s Can You Help Prevent Alzheimer’s Through Better Oral Health?

Monday, July 6th, 2009

As scary as it is to think about, let alone really consider, studies show that there is a possible link between Alzheimer’s and gum disease. As most of us are well aware, Alzheimer’s is a devastating disease which causes a person to forget - everything. They can fail to recall how to do things. They can forget things they have done. They can forget their loved ones. The degeneration only continues from there. The disease is hard on the person suffering from it and on everyone who cares for that person.

We also know that gum disease is a serious enough problem that a number of other diseases are linked to it.It seems as if the list continues to grow more and more. You can see why it is imperative to maintain excellent oral health. Oramd is a simple essential oil blend that might help. Your life may very well depend on taking impeccable care of your dental health.

It is now suspected that there is a link between Alzheimer’s Disease and, specifically, the gum disease known as gingivitis. Particularly, this is a real threat if gingivitis is left to grow and is thus allowed to become something more serious, such as periodontitis.

There are a number of methods to help fight this oral health problem. You could utilize the powerful therabreath line of mouthwashes.

Considering the fact that anywhere from fifty to seventy five percent of the population in the United States alone could have gingivitis, you can see the enormous risk here. The odds are almost too painful to think about.

Another method of combatting this disease that few have thought about is utilizing the power of Home ozonators to make oxygenated mouthwash that can be used to kill the germs that cause dental disease.

The trouble is that it is so easy for gum disease to go unnoticed - or even ignored. It is thus vital that you pay close attention to your teeth and your gums. If your gums bleed when you brush or floss, that is a sign of gingivitis. If you suspect you might have it, you need to catch it early. Taking care of your teeth is easy. So is saving your life through excellent oral hygiene.

Disclaimer: If you have or think you might have gum disease or some other type of health problem, visit your periodontist or doctor for advice, diagnosis and treatment.  The USFDA has not evaluated statements about any products in this article.
