Introduction To Medical Alarm For Elderly

Monday, August 31st, 2009

A personal emergency response system, PERS for short is known commonly as a Medical Alarm or Medical Alert. A Medical Alarm consist of a base unit and an activating device usually called a pendant or panic button. These panic buttons are wireless and most of them can be worn as a pendant , wrist band or a belt clip and have a range from 100 feet up to 400 feet. You can also add other triggering devices like stationary panic buttons, CO2 detectors and smoke detectors.

Most all PERS units work the same way. When the wireless panic button is pushed the main unit calls a central call center that answers the call and depending on what you have set up with your PERS dealer either calls local Emergency Medical Services EMS for short or calls a person you have instructed them to. If the medical alarm system supplied by your dealer is two-way voice capable when the unit is activated and the call center receives the call they will ask if you are ok and access the problem otherwise they will only be able to hear you. The base unit will have been pre-programed with your call center nuumber, aand a list of the activating devices. The call center will have received from the dealer information about health issues, spare key locations. There two components to a PERS  system the equipment and the call center.  Not all dealers and call centers are equal.  Make sure when evaluating a medical alarm that ask question and get answers.

Medical alarms were developed in the 1970’s you may remember the comercial “help I’ve fallen and can’t get up.  If you are elderly and find yourself unsteady on your feet, have incapacitating health issues , live alone and have no one that comes by to see you  then you may want to consider  a Medical Alarm

Texas Assisted Living Facilities: Thousand Of Choices Available

Monday, August 31st, 2009

When it comes to choosing options for Texas assisted living facilities, there is no shortage of choices.  From Alzheimer’s care to nursing homes to retirement communities, Texas has it all.It is cited that the number of options for assisted living in the state of Texas is over 7K in total.

That’s a pretty wide selection, and if you’re in the market for a provider to help with your loved one’s needs, sifting through the options is no small task.

Where to begin?  The obvious answer, after determination of your loved one’s needs has taken place, is to prepare a comprehensive list of your requirements.   In order to do that, answers to questions like these are essential:

•    How self-sufficient is the individual needing placement?  Regulations for assisted living Dallas Texas, for example, include criteria related to the independence of potential residents.  The ability of your loved one to evacuate the facility under his own power in the event of a fire or other emergency will determine what type of firm will accept his application for enrollment.

• Does the person in assisted living require regular care during the hours that he or she sleeps? If this is the case, then chanecs are some added monetary and logistical considerations might apply.

• Is physical rehab needed?  If that is the case, those facilities that have licensed physical therapists on staff will provide the most cost effective way to meet your loved one’s needs, as opposed to calling in a professional outside the facility’s staff.

•    What are your loved one’s interests?  Matching a facility to the activities the resident-to-be wishes to engage in is critical to ensuring optimum quality of life.

• Are there strong monetary limitations?  Obviously, if insurance, Medicare, or family financial resources can’t cover everything on the patient’s wish list, the field of choices will be narrowed involuntarily.

•    Is the individual easy to get along with?  This will be an significant consideration for facility staff and fellow residents alike.  Many elders suffering from various conditions related to aging have their disagreeable moments.  As such, it’s important to assess the patience, understanding and operating procedures of prospective facility staff members.

Most senior living Dallas facilities provide comprehensive questionnaires for their potential customers to fill out prior to consideration for residency. Most times these questionnaires are for the immediate benefit of the care facility - but also your family - since ensuring a successful placement means matching the facility’s functions and activities to the patient’s requirements.

By asking sincere questions and making sure you get sincere answers, chances are the transition for you or your loved one into assisted living will be easier and as stress-free as possible.

Cruise your way upward with Platform Lift

Monday, August 31st, 2009

Harry Nelson is one of the most successful lawyers at our firm. He’s a hard worker and he gets along well with everyone. Hence i was take a back, when jack thought of leaving us. When I asked him why he was going, Harry told me it was all about respect, respect for people with disabilities. Harry is sitting on a wheelchair. Long back he was met with an accident with a vehicle, driven by a drunk driver, and this caused his legs being disabled. Since i have known him, Harry, despite his disability, conducted himself with dignity and humour. But lately he has grown bitter. It seems that he asked for a platform lift to be installed on our staircase over a year ago, but he had yet to receive a response.

My cheeks turned scarlet when I confessed that I had no idea what a platform lift was. Harry explained that a platform lift is a type of stairlift that attaches to the wall or is stanchion mounted. He said they can be fitted on either straight or curved stairs and that they can be used by people in wheelchairs or mobility scooters. Harry said he did not like availing the elevator. I don’t blame him; it’s like a tin can. Only four or five persons could fit in it conveniently, and Harry says people take a deep breath when he comes in because he occupies a lot of space. He also said he doesn’t much like it when people spill their hot morning coffee in his lap.

Since his office is on the second floor, he said he can’t see what the big deal is? A platform lift is a great way to make your building accessible to all clients and employees. He went on to inform about some of it’s unique functions. He said platform lifts operates automatically and can be steered by the wheelchair user. He said they gave secured path to and from the platform since a ramp automatically adjusts to make the wheelchair secured while the platform is moving. He also informed that you can easily fold the platform when not in use, and hence they do not block the traffic in any way on the stairway. The man had done his homework.

That afternoon I went to my bosses. I told them they were crazy to risk losing Harry Nelson over a little thing like a platform lift. I told them a  would increase employee morale and might even help us attract more clients. Moreover, I told them it was against the law to deprive a person with disabilities equal access in the workplace. Finally, they could understand this language. In less than a week’s time, a platform lift had been installed and everybody was happy.

Search Death Records Quickly

Monday, August 31st, 2009

Death records and other vital records for those that have passed on are relatively easy to find. Typically you’ll be looking for records of yor own family members. What kind of records are we talking about? We’re talking about records like birth, marriage (and possibly divorce) certificates, as well as official death records. Depending on the circumstance, you could even find related documents like home titles and property deeds. If you try to do this yourself, you’re going to have to dig into newspaper archives, spend time researching in libraries, and you’re going to have to get information out of government databases.

To find the death records of more distant relatives or ancestors, you might need to use one or more of the many online genealogy web sites. Some have a membership fee and others are free thanks to volunteer efforts and donations. While they will generally be accurate and fairly complete, for difficult searches you may need to visit several sites before finding what you’re looking for.

You could also try to find the information you need on the search engines. If you’ve ever entered someone’s name into Google and run a search, you may already know how much information that can return.

The large number of information sources available to you is both a blessing and a curse. It can take a substantial amount of time and more than a little skill to tease the information you need out of all these resources. For many people, it would be worthwhile to pay someone skilled to do this death record research and gather the information in one place. You’ll be glad to know that there are companies that do just that. They gather death records from many sources, and combine the information for you. They make this information available in an easy to use web site, where for a small fee anyone can do extensive death records research simply by entering a few bits of information about the person they are researching. It will save you lots of time and effort and is for most people is well worth the cost.
