I was first shown , and given a classic handbag hook , when visiting friends in Europe several years ago. I was impressed and thought they were a great gizmo . A cute , neat and attractive hook to hang your bag from the table when visiting a cafe instead of placing it by one’s feet under the table – anyone who dared hang their bag from the back of their chair was inviting trouble from thieves. Little or no thought had i given to the filth of the floor or anywhere else one might drop their purse !
This detail was brought sharply into focus when, surfing the internet, I was lead to a video clip detailing this subject . Ugh! I genuinely didn’t want to let my imagination run wild with some of the scenarios depicted! But it was ‘ alarm ’ call, to me at any rate, to pay more heed to the outside of my purse as well as the inside.
We all live such hectic lives and tend to carry so much in our handbags (all very necessary of course!) that they can be heavy , and the absence of anywhere to hang them, makes us all careless and thoughtless of where we put them. Crowded restaurants offer us no alternative but to drop them on the floor : the vanity surrounds to the washbasins in ladies bathroom are often damp , and often there are no clothes hooks on the backs of the doors. Now imagine about the bottom of your pocket book !!
over are the days when a handbag was a mere necessity – a vessel for all our daily girlie needs! Nowadays, pocket books are a fashion accessory – a statement of who we are, and how we want to be seen. Consequently, we give more thought to what we buy and how much we spend – and we all know how much you can invest on a pocket book !!
Don’t misunderstand me , I know we all look after our handbags but perchance we should give a little more attention as to where we place our bags down. With this in mind, at the same time as buying a new purse , why don’t we automatically buy a purse hook ? Perhaps the outlets should offer them with each purchase? But as fashion designers have added to the original purse caddy , purse hangers themselves have become a fashion statement, and the outlay in time and money could be too onerous a task for some of the Stores.
