Help in the care home

Saturday, September 12th, 2009

If you are in the ownership of a care home or perhaps even work within one and you think that there may be some room for improvement then there are a few simple and cheap ways of doing so.
Going around and talking to the residents is a good idea as they feel like you actually care about them and it assures them that you are there because you want to be,. From time to time just go and ask around if the residents think there could be any improvements made to the place. As they are living there the whole time it is a lot harder for them to cope with something that is wrong as there is nothing they can do about the issue in the home.

A unique idea is to go around and ask everyone what their favourite meal is, once a week or even month put all of these into a hat and pull one out and that is what gets cooked for that evening. There isnt much effort in one meal a month and it will mean a lot to the residents as they are being listened too.

Why not have a couple of fun evenings where you sit down with the residents and just have a game of something. Bingo and darts do not cost much at all to start up and they are two of the favourites. Why not celebrate a birthday in the home in a bit of a better way, put out balloons and make a cake, its not expensive and it will make a birthday.

Optimize the kitchen and washing area with commercial washing machine as well as using commercial dishwashers.Saving money is crucial at the moment and having bigger machines could save you a few pennies in the long run. Having top laundry equipment could save a lot of time as well so instead of hiring extra staff to mingle with the residents one of the existing staff members could get a bit more involved.

Only a few ideas there to help improve the productivity of the home as well as improve the happiness of the residents.
